Something wicked this way comes…

October is upon us and with it the crisp weather, changing leaves, and harvest bounty of autumn. We venture into these last few months of the year like a roller coaster racing down that final steep hill and back into the entrance, giddy to get out and do it all over again. It is my absolute favorite time of the year. You can keep your springtime tulips and summer’s long sunny days. The minute the air begins to cool, I can’t help but get excited by all that fall has to offer.

If October had a Facebook page, it would undoubtedly have a pumpkin in its profile picture. October and pumpkins go hand in hand…if either of them had hands. The autumnal gourd is a staple of the season and evokes a classic sense of tradition. In order to honor this orange oddity in all its glory, I have decided to devote the month of October to all things pumpkin. I give you…

31 Days of Pumpkin

It’s ambitions, I realize this. The plan is to post something pumpkin-related every day until Halloween. It might be a recipe, a fun fact, a decorating tip, or a desperate attempt at pumpkin-themed witticisms. There are limitless options when it comes to cooking with pumpkin. From roasting sugar pumpkins to cracking open a can of good old fashioned Libby’s — there are infinite ways to incorporate this standby winter squash. Ideally, I don’t want to end up making 31 pumpkin pies, so I intend to shake things up and span the spectrum from sweet to savory.

November will be here before you know it and the holiday season will whirl us all into a frenzy of red and green. So savor the orange while you can and get your pumpkin on.
